Company Description

We are a global investment platform dedicated to building the future of sports. Backed by the ownership group of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Chelsea Football Club, the Los Angeles Lakers, Cadillac Formula 1, Andretti Motorsports, the Billie Jean King Cup, and the Professional Women's Hockey League, we invest where sports intersect with life -- with a special focus on areas where sports intersect with the global markets of health, culture, commerce, and technology. Our team works across stages from seed to growth to provide our companies with perspective, relationships, capital, and powerful strategic resources. Delbarton students may be familiar with some of our investments, which include DraftKings, SeatGeek, Oura, LeagueApps, and TeamSnap among others. OUR NORTH STAR There is no place on earth untouched by the power of sports. It doesn’t matter your age, race, gender, income, politics, or faith. It doesn’t matter where you live. Sports are a timeless, fundamental part of humanity. And these days more than ever, sports are also one of those very few things that can unite people, whether on the sidelines of a six-year-old soccer game on a Saturday morning or in the stands of a major league ballpark under the lights. For our team at Elysian Park, this makes for an incredibly interesting place to invest. Importantly, we don’t just mean investing in professional sports teams, although our ownership group has certainly been dedicated to this pursuit as well, serving now as custodians of some of the world’s greatest franchises. We also mean investing in the handful of massive global markets that sports intersect with — markets like health, culture, commerce, and technology. These intersection points — what we call Sports+ — are where the magic happens. These are the places where sports can be additive to major markets in meaningful ways, where sports can unlock more influence, engagement, value, and scale. These are the places where sports enrich lives. With that North Star, we invest globally at the youth, high school, college, and professional levels. We partner with entrepreneurs to build solutions to real problems facing fans, athletes, teams, leagues, and the broader business ecosystem. Domain-focused, thesis-driven, and stage-agnostic, we bring perspective, relationships, capital, and strategic resources to our areas of focus. We then channel those advantages into every investment we make – at any stage, in any location, around the world.

Learning Goals

In an interactive discussion, students will learn three things: 1. How venture capital works, and why it's an exciting asset class in the broader world of capital markets 2. How to think about starting your own company (if you want to be an entrepreneur) or investing in a young company (if you want instead to be an investor) 3. And why, at this point in history, the sports industry is an incredibly exciting place to build your career During the course of the day, we will evaluate a company together, and then also discuss new ideas and areas of opportunity to create businesses that matter to the rising generation of youth. What do youth athletes need or want? And what kind of company would you build to meet that need?
